Welcome!

This blog consists of little more than a series of polls designed to determine how much support there might be for a new U.S. political party, the Fifth Republic Party.  The most important polls are located beneath this introduction. If you have time to participate in just one poll, please choose the first one - it's short, with just three possible answers. You are also welcome to participate in any of the polls located in the column on the right; each one focuses on a specific issue.

Sorry, discussions are not allowed here. However, you can discuss the 5th Republic Party, these polls and related issues at the party's Opera Group site (see link at right), provided you register with Opera, then join the Fifth Republic Party group.

These polls are based on the following issues, which the Fifth Republic Party tentatively supports:

1. The U.S. would benefit from a mixed economy - a combination of capitalism and socialism.

2. The energy industry (Exxon, etc.) should be nationalized.

3. George W. Bush deserves either the death penalty or life in prison for treason and war crimes.

4. The Patriot Act should be repealed.

5. A new, more thorough investigation of the 9/11 terrorist attacks should be launched.

6. Bill Gates and Microsoft accountable for their crimes and banned from exploiting children.

7. John Walker Lindh ("The American Taliban") should be pardoned.

8. U.S. troops should be withdrawn from Iraq and Afghanistan.

9. The U.S. should end its embargo against Cuba and surrender Guantanamo Bay.

10. The U.S. should end military support to Colombia and halt its phony drug war activities there.

11. The U.S. should suupport Hugo Chavez.
